The Community of Callander wishes to announce the opening of the new Callander & District Food Bank. The Food Bank is located at 78 Lansdowne Avenue and will begin assisting those in need starting January 5/10, 3pm to 5pm, and each Tuesday following.

This initiative is being headed up by local residents Rosemary Dupuis and Maureen Fitzgerald.

β€œIn the past, Callander families in need have had to travel to Powassan to receive assistance. For many families that can be extremely difficult. We realized that our community needed a Food Bank and now we are about to start one.” Rosemary Dupuis

In order to commemorate this important community program, media are invited to attend a special kick off event to be held on January 5/10 at 9:30am. Various dignitaries will be on-hand to officially open the Food Bank.

The children from the school at M.T. Davidson School will form a chain from the school to the Food Bank to deliver the food they have collected. Various groups will present financial donations including the North Bay Real Estate Board.

Members of the North Bay Police Force, the Callander Fire Department and the Knights of Columbus will also be on hand.

Local residents are being encouraged to show their support by dropping off non-perishable food items or making a cash donation. Volunteers are also being solicited to aid with the on-going operation of the Food Bank.

β€œI am proud to be a part of a community that is so willing to help the less fortunate and I hope to see the rest of Callander support and assist Rosemary with her goals.” Mayor Hector Lavigne
