The Nipissing-Parry Sound Catholic District School Board is pleased to announce that, at its December 15 meeting, it approved the selection of St. Luke Catholic School as the new name of the consolidated school formerly known as St. Joseph-Sacred Heart.

A fitting choice given the schools' individual histories and their combined future, St. Luke was the patron of working diligently in combining the old and the new.

"How appropriate as we too, as students and staff of St. Luke School, endeavour to unite and combine two former schools into one new, special community," said St. Luke Principal, Marcello Tignanelli. "The journey of bringing these two school communities together has been very rewarding. To finally see the building plans commence and the naming of the new school come to reality is truly remarkable."

The name selection process involved the entire school community - students, parents and staff - with a survey which welcomed input for a new name. The school then voted on the most popular names, with St. Luke coming out on top and receiving full support from the Catholic School Advisory Committee.

Construction of the new facility is anticipated to commence in April 2010 and the new school is scheduled to open its doors in September 2011 at the former Sacred Heart School site at 1516 McKeown Avenue.
