Updating fatal motor vehicle collision in Sturgeon Falls

The Special Investigations Unit released the names of the two people killed in a fatal motor vehicle accident on Sunday night in Sturgeon Falls.

Ghislain Michel Joseph Gareau, 23, of Verner was driving the westbound vehicle, which minutes before had fled from a RIDE police on Highway 17 East of North Bay. OPP proceeded to chase after Gareau who was westbound on Highway 17 towards Sturgeon Falls. The West Nipissing Police Service attempted to stop the vehicle by deploying a spike belt but the vehicle continued westbound colliding with an eastbound vehicle. The eastbound vehicle Angele Mary Penasse, 20, of Sturgeon Falls.

SIU investigators continue their investigation and autopsies were performed today.
