Three Earlton area residents have been fined $1,200 each for night hunting.

Jean Luc Baril, Richard Baril and Didier Germain were all found guilty of night hunting and each ordered to pay a $1,200 fine. They also received one-year deer hunting suspensions, and the crossbow used in the offence was forfeited to the Crown. Germain was also found guilty of possessing another person's deer seal and fined an additional $400.

Court heard that in the early morning hours of October 25, 2008, conservation officers found the three hunters in Carnarvon Township of Manitoulin Island an area that has a heavy concentration of white-tailed deer with an unencased crossbow in their vehicle and an arrow on the floor.

Justice of the Peace Norman Ross heard the case in the Ontario Court of Justice, Gore Bay, on November 30, 2009.
