It was a perfect recipe for the 21st Old-Fashioned Christmas Walk Friday ... one full cup of streets clear of snow with a dash of warm weather ... and residents turned out in droves to sample it. Thousands of people walked the downtown core purchasing the must haves for Christmas presents and saying hello to neighbours and friends along the way.

The evening kicked off with the ceremonial tree lighting in the Fraser Street Park. This year Noretta and Lucien Lafontaine donated the 35-foot blue spruce tree for all to enjoy.

The night also featured Christmas shopping, horse-drawn wagon rides, choirs singing, a visit with North Bay Firefighters, and plenty of hot chocolate and cider. A real crowd pleaser was the First Annual Downtown Snowboard Invitational hosted by Cheapskates Quality Sporting Goods. The competition attracted participants from throughout Ontario as well as a strong local contingent.
