Woman escapes early morning fire

Reports indicate that an elderly woman escaped an early morning fire Tuesday.

North Bay Fire crews were called to the 100 block of Second Avenue West just after 3:30am where they encountered a kitchen fire with heavy smoke arriving on scene.

Reports further indicate that while the woman, lone occupant of the home, escaped and was helped by a passerby the pet cat unfortunately perished.

The house received extensive smoke damage and Fire Prevention is now investigating the scene.
