For over 3 decades Clancy McDonald was the voice of North Bay news on local radio stations till he retired in 2001, and three days after retiring McDonald went to Parliament Hill where he took on the role of Executive Assistant Nipissing MP Bob Wood.

In May of 2003 Clancy was presented with the "Lifetime Achievement Award" from the Radio-Television News Directors Association of Canada. It was the first time the national award was ever presented by the broadcaster’s group. Soon after that the news bug got hold of Clancy once again and he joined the BayToday team as regular editorial contributor.

Since October 2003 McDonald has been sharing his views on the headline stories of the day on a routine basis. In October 2007 McDonald announced he had a Neurological disorder, called: Progressive Supra nuclear Palsy (PSP) and since that announcement PSP has impacted his health and presented problems that include poor balance, stooped posture, soft quiet voice, illegible hand writing, apathy and mask-like face expression.

In his Tuesday, November 17, 2009 editorial McDonald announced that this would be his last as he is permanently hanging up his news hat.

BayToday thanks Clancy for his insightful and thought provoking editorial pieces for our readers and his continued support of our news organisation.

Clancy’s take on the top news stories of the day will be missed but I am sure everyone agrees he has earned a happy and peaceful retirement.

We wish you all the best in your retirement friend.
