Illegal bear guiding results in lifetime ban

A Cambridge man who was part of an illegal operation to guide non-resident bear hunters in the Temagami Area has received a lifetime ban on both bear hunting and providing bear hunting services.

Fredrick Law was convicted of unlawfully providing black bear hunting services.

The court heard that in August 2008, Law served as an unlicensed bear hunting guide and outfitter for hunters from the United States. He put out bait for bears and guided the hunters in another operator’s Bear Management Area.

Two other men involved in the offence were convicted at an earlier court date.

Justice of the Peace Ted Hodgins heard the case in the Ontario Court of Justice, Temiskaming Shores, on October 22, 2009.
