The North Bay and District Hospital has lifted the visitor restrictions at both the Scollard and McLaren sites. While the visitor restrictions have been lifted, members of the community are asked not to visit a patient if they, or anyone in their family, have the flu or any flu-like symptoms.

Activity in the Emergency Department has stabilized to the point where the Orthopedic Clinic can return to its permanent location beside the ER. The Clinic had been temporarily relocated as the ER needed more space for screening patients with influenza like illnesses. Clinics will resume in their usual location on Monday November 23rd.

"We would like to take this opportunity to thank the community for their support of the visitor restrictions and helping us ensure the safety of both our patients and staff," says Nancy Jacko, Vice President, Medicine Care Centre. "We take the decision to restrict visitors very seriously because we know how important it is for both patients and their families," Jacko explains. "That is why we moved to lift visitor restrictions as soon as we felt it was safe to do so."

The Emergency Department continues to see patients presenting with influenza like illness. Visitors are reminded to wash their hands with the alcohol rinse provided in each lobby before entering and leaving the facility. The public is reminded that the best way to fight influenza-like illness is by washing their hands, coughing into their sleeve and staying at home should they be experiencing fever or flu-like symptoms. Visit the Ontario Ministry of Health's website and Health Canada's website for further information on influenza.
