When driving along Main West you may notice a large white cross along the way. Many people don’t know it, but said cross was erected in 1934 by La Fédération des femmes Canadiennes-Françaises to commemorate the 400th anniversary of Jacques Cartier arriving on the shores of Gaspé; thus laying the groundwork for the creation of our Nation.

Monday night’s City Council meeting saw Council pass a motion requesting the monument be moved to Jane St. and Algonquin at École Secondaire Catholique Algonquin.

Councillor, Mike Anthony said it’s going to be seen more at its new location.

“It’s going to have a much more attractive site, and a lot more traffic going by it.”
