Mike Schreiner Elected Leader of Green Party of Ontario Successful entrepreneur will focus on growing party and putting local, job-creating businesses at top of Green agenda

Mike Schreiner was officially elected Saturday as leader of the Green Party of Ontario (GPO). Schreiner is a respected entrepreneur and community advocate, who brings a formidable record of business and job creation to the leadership of the party.

For the first time in GPO history, Mike Schreiner will be a full-time party leader. He will focus on building and growing the party by establishing a professional party organization and setting ambitious fundraising and membership targets.

As the GPO actively prepares for the 2011 provincial election, Schreiner will focus the party around three broad themes:

• Building a prosperous green economy;
• Fostering strong communities; and
• Promoting the health and wellbeing of all Ontarians.

• Green Party members ratified Schreiner’s leadership bid by a confidence vote at the GPO Leadership and Annual Policy conference, taking place in London from November 13-15, 2009.

• The GPO is the fastest growing political party in Ontario. The party won 14,103 votes in 1995. In 2007, the party earned 354,897 votes.
