The Rotaract Club of North Bay-Nipissing is holding a Pub Night Fundraiser at 100 George’s on Friday, November 13th to raise money for some of its local and international initiatives.

The evening gets underway at 9 p.m. and costs $3 at the door. Brass Tactics will be providing live entertainment and all proceeds from the cover charge will help support Soles for Africa-Canada and other Rotaract initiatives. Individuals who donate a pair of gently used children’s shoes will also have their name entered into a draw for a prize.

Soles for Africa is a small, local initiative started by North Bay native, Jason Berger who discovered the desperate need for children’s shoes in Kenya while participating in a teaching placement in 2007. Berger founded Soles for Africa-Canada with the initial goal of collecting 1,200 pairs of shoes to be delivered to the students in the rural community where he taught. In collaboration with Rotaract, shoe collection boxes and organized shoe drives are now in place at various community schools and businesses.

Rotaract is Rotary-sponsored service club for young men and women ages 18 to 30. It is Rotary’s most significant and fastest-growing service program, with more than 7,000 clubs in about 163 countries and geographical areas.
