The Nipissing-Timiskaming Green Party of Canada Electoral District Association is pleased to announce that our candidate in the next federal election will be Matt McManee.

Matt McManee has been a highly enthusiastic environmental activist since the age of sixteen. He became inspired to get involved when his drinking water was threatened by the proposed Dumpsite 41, located directly above the Alliston Aquifer north of Elmvale, Ontario. Originally from the Barrie-area village of Anten Mills, Matt moved to North Bay when he was nineteen. Since then he has graduated with an Honours B.A. in Environmental Geography from Nipissing University, and is currently back at Nipissing completing a Bachelor of Education degree.

Matt has held many volunteer and paid positions within the Nipissing and North Bay environmental community. During 2007-2008 he was Nipissing University's Assistant Recycling Coordinator, and for the summer of 2008 he was the City of North Bay's Environmental Educator and Organic Technician. In this capacity, Matt edited and wrote "green" tips for North Bay's 2009 Garbage and Recycling Calendar.

While in his third year at university, Matt was Vice-President of Nipissing's Environmental Action Committee (EAC), and he served as President of the EAC the following year. The Committee's activities include the Can Change Festival, North Bay's first environmental festival; environmental education and awareness initiatives at Nipissing University and Canadore College; and a collaboration with Ubuntu, a North Bay-based NGO promoting health and economic and environmental sustainability in two villages in Cameroon. Matt is a contributing board member of Greening Nipissing, an environmental action and education group, and was also a founding board member of the Eco Village Project, an experiment to measure the effectiveness of environmentally responsible living on energy and water consumption in a college residence unit.

In May 2009, Matt received the Dave Marshall Leadership Award from Nipissing University for his contributions to campus life. Matt has the enthusiastic endorsement of Meg Purdy and Craig Bridges, Green Party candidates in previous federal elections.

Matt looks forward to representing the Green Party of Canada in the coming federal election race, and hopes to persuade everyone in Nipissing-Timiskaming to join him in becoming committed environmental crusaders for the planet!
