Building on Memorial Drive to be demolished

Memorial Drive is one of the most scenic places in the Gateway City. However, some people could say an eyesore on the Waterfront is the former Kenroc/Uniroc plant. Monday night, City Council approved that a contract be given to R.M. Belanger Ltd. to demolish said building. That includes the building itself, along with the concrete floor, the foundation system of the building, and the decontamination of the property.

Once the property is restored to its natural state, it will be sold for future development. However, Councillor Judy Koziol said they wouldn’t let just anyone purchase the land.

“What we would like to see is something that complements the waterfront,” Koziol said. “Of course, we have to have it zoned properly and we have to look at proposals.”
