MNR News Release

*********************

There were no new fires reported in the East Fire Region between October 30 and November 2. The fire season officially ended on October 31 and fire fighting resources have been reduced to over-winter levels.

The East Fire Region recorded 190 fires burning 6,722 hectares. The West Fire Region reports a final number of 194 fires and an area burned of 13,934 hectares during the 2009 fire season bringing the provincial total to 384 fires and 20,656 hectares burned.

All FireRanger crews have been released as well as heavy waterbomber and helicopters. Remaining fire staff are available to respond if a fire occurs, but with rain, snow and late autumn weather the fire hazard is low.

Equipment is still being returned from British Columbia and will continue through until December. This equipment will be serviced and repaired through the winter months in preparation for the 2010 season.
