Nipissing University is establishing a new award to honour the sacrifices of our Canadian Forces by providing financial assistance to children and dependents of Canadian Forces personnel killed while serving in an active mission.

The award is part of Project Hero, a nation-wide initiative in which a number of Canadian universities are participating.

As a member of the Project Hero initiative, Nipissing University will provide eligible award recipients tuition for eight terms of study as well as on-campus residence fees for the first two terms.

“Nipissing University is very proud to provide financial assistance to the children of our fallen Canadian Forces personnel,” said Nipissing president Dr. Lesley Lovett-Doust. “This is especially meaningful to our institution, as North Bay is home to the CFB 22 Wing base and has a rich history with the Canadian Forces.”

To be eligible for the award, the recipient must be:

- A dependent of a Canadian Forces personnel deceased while serving in an active mission;

- Under the age of 26; and

- Registered as a full-time student at the university, in a program of study eligible for funding by the province of Ontario.

The Project Hero award program is effective from September 1, 2009, to August 31, 2014.
