Nipissing students have once again placed their university at the top in the Globe and Mail’s annual survey of undergraduate students, the Canadian University Report, released yesterday.

Nipissing has enjoyed remarkable consistency in the Canadian University report, and in other surveys that address students’ satisfaction with their university experience.

For the third consecutive year, Nipissing earned an A+ and is tied for first place in their grouping for Class Size. For the fourth year in a row, Nipissing’s residences garnered an A, the highest mark of any university in their group. Nipissing also earned an A and another tie for first place for Quality of Education and Most Satisfied Students, repeating the high grades from the previous two years.

Nipissing earned As in the key categories of Student-Faculty Interaction and Campus Atmosphere, and an A- in Teaching.

“Nipissing has always received excellent grades from our students since the Globe and Mail began this survey eight years ago and we are proud of our consistent success,” said Nipissing president Lesley Lovett-Doust. “We are a student-centred university, so surveys of this nature, those that speak to student satisfaction, help us see where we are meeting our goals and indicate how we might be able to improve the post-secondary experience of our students.”

Nipissing’s library received a B-grade and a 16th place ranking, the university’s lowest ranking. That should improve dramatically with the completion of the Learning Library in spring of 2011.

The 2010 Canadian University Report surveyed 38,000 current undergraduate students from across Canada. Universities are grouped into four categories: large, with enrolment over 22,000; medium, with enrolment between 12,000 and 22,000; small, with enrolment between 4,000 and 12,000; and very small, with enrolment under 4,000. Nipissing University is in the small university grouping.
