SMARTRISK News Release

Car crashes are the leading cause of death for young people between 15 and 20 years of age. SMARTRISK and State Farm are working in partnership to help bring those numbers down.

State Farm in partnership with SMARTRISK have adapted its award winning No Regrets program to participate in their Project Ignition initiative. It is a grant program that uses service-learning to help address teen driver safety issues.

Two North Bay secondary schools rose to the challenge to work together to develop a campaign to address the issue of teen driver safety in our community.

West Ferris and Widdifield Secondary schools each were success in having their application from State Farm awarded. On December 10, 2009 a Mock Crash and a Buckle Up event will be hosted for all secondary students to attend this educational event.

Schools ( 5 in the Province of Ontario) whose campaign are judged to be among the top 10 in the United States and 1 from Canada will receive $5,000.00 to help cover expenses to attend the National Service Learning Conference. There, they showcase their great work and one campaign will be named the Best of the Best and that team will be presented with a $10,000.00 grant to continue their great work.

On Wednesday, October 14, 2009 the State Farm grant cheque was presented to the No Regret teams at West Ferris and Widdifield Secondary Schools.
