Saari named Bernardine Yackman Memorial Award recipient

The Near North District School Board is delighted to announce that on Saturday October 17, 2009 Trustee Eunice Saari was presented with the Bernardine Yackman Memorial Award as recognition for her outstanding contribution to education.

The late Bernardine Yackman was a trustee on the Sudbury Board of Education and, for many years, an active Director of the Northern Ontario School Trustees' Association.
First awarded in 1985, the award recognizes dedication, commitment and an outstanding contribution to education in Ontario by an active or retired school trustee.

Trustee Saari has been involved in education locally, regionally and at the provincial level. A retired elementary school teacher, Trustee Saari has served the Nipissing and Near North District School Boards for over 19 years. She has been chairperson and vice-chairperson of the Near North District School Board, and has participated in, and chaired many sub-committees of the board. Trustee Saari has been recognized provincially by her Federation for Distinguished Service in teaching, and has always been an outspoken voice for justice and equity for all children. In whatever role Trustee Saari assumes, she consistently arrives prepared to participate and discuss any point with an informed perspective and with facts to support her view.

“It has been a pleasure to work with such a devoted trustee” said Director of Education Heli Vail. “It is wonderful to see Trustee Saari recognized for all of her hard work on behalf of the students and families of the Near North District School Board”.
