Four perish in plane crash

Devine Township – North Bay OPP officers responded to a call of an overdue plane at approximately 10:30 p.m. on Saturday, October 10th, 2009. Family members in Sudbury reported the plane was overdue to police. An investigation commenced and at approximately 3:30 a.m. on Sunday, October 11th, 2009, the Joint Rescue Coordination Centre (JRCC) located the plane in Algonquin Provincial Park near Devine Lake, Devine Township and confirmed all four occupants were deceased.

The plane, a PIPER PA28, had a registered flight plan leaving Kingston at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday October 10th, 2009 with an estimated arrival in Sudbury at 6:30 p.m.

The site of the crash is accessible only by air and the OPP Helicopter has been on scene transporting members of the Emergency Response Team, Forensic Identification Unit, North Bay Crime Unit and officers of the Powassan OPP for investigation and recovery. This is a joint investigation with Transportation Safety Board.

The four occupants of the aircraft are identified as Kevin HOULE, 50 years old, his wife, Lorraine Lemaire HOULE, 50 years old; their daughter Emily HOULE, 17 years old, all of Sudbury and Michael ROLLINS, 17 years old, Garson, Ontario.

At this time, the victims are being recovered and they will be transported to the Opatovsky Funeral Home in Burks Falls for examination by the coroner. The pilot will be transported to Centre of Forensic Sciences in Toronto for a post mortem scheduled for an undisclosed time tomorrow.

The cause of crash is undetermined and is still under investigation.
