The investigation into Tuesday night's fire at 248 Main Street West is now in the hands of the North Bay Police Service Chief Fire Prevention Officer Randy Vezina told BayToday Wednesday night.

“Dispatch received multiple calls at approximately 8:03pm, at 8:06pm we had our first truck on scene,” he notes.

“Firefighters were confronted with heavy smoke coming out the west front door, an attack line was advanced down into the basement firefighters located a working fire in one of the rooms at the basement and opened a line and knocked the fire down.”

Vezina adds that the tenants had all self evacuated without injury.

Following initial investigation and consultation with Fire Chief Grant Love Wednesday, the Fire Marshal's Office was called in and in response to that investigation city police were called in. Vezina says in light of these circumstances the fire department cannot speak to the cause of the fire or the cost of damages.

Vezina says samples were taken by the OFM investigator and will be taken to the Centre for Forensic Science in Toronto for further investigation.
