This year’s recipient of the Annual Ted Day Tourism Award has been involved in the hospitality industry for the past 35 years. Angela Trudel-Johnston is a key component of the Westmont Hospitality Group serving as the Regional Sales Manager and providing leadership and support to 146 hotels across Canada.

The Ted Day Tourism Award is presented annually to an individual who has demonstrated a passion for and dedication to Northern Ontario and its tourism industry. Angela received her award at the 34th annual meeting of Ontario’s Near North at the Best Western Hotel & Conference Centre at 700 Lakeshore Drive.

“As the North Bay founder of the First Annual Awards, which encourages, motivates, supports and rewards graduates, Angela shares Ted Day’s passion and willingness to offer advice and support to students and younger colleagues. We know that Ted would be honored that Angela has been named the recipient of the 2009 Ted Day Tourism Award,” said an Executive Officer of Ontario’s Near North.

Angela began her career at the age of 16, as operator of two small businesses ~ Avon Product Sales and a 12-unit motel which was located on Highway 11 North. In the past she has served on the Board of Directors of Ontario’s Near North as the association’s President, Treasurer and Director representing festivals and events. Previously, she served as the 1st Vice President for the North Bay and District Chamber of Commerce and was a Director on the Chamber’s Economic Growth Committee. Angela was also the Chairperson of the Tourism and Strategic Planning Committees as well as being President of Women in Trades and Industry for three years.

Always a very active member of the community, Angela has served on the Advisory Committee for the Capitol Centre, Nipissing Stage, as well as being active in MADD, the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, Women in Business, both the Temagami and Sudbury Chambers of Commerce to name a few. Angela was instrumental in providing a solution to ensure the stability of a unique Northern cultural festival, Celtfest, which this region was in jeopardy of losing. Thanks to Angela’s assistance in 2009 Celtfest once again returned to a park setting at North Bay’s Champlain Park.
