The Nipissing-Parry Sound Catholic District School Board is pleased to announce the results for the 2008-2009 EQAO Grade 3, 6, and 9 provincial testing. The Board enjoyed improvements in all Grade 3 and 6 testing categories - reading, writing, and mathematics – as shown in the chart below.

The Board exceeded the provincial average in all areas of the Grade 3 assessment and in Grade 9 Mathematics. Furthermore, St. Joseph-Scollard Hall Catholic Secondary School will be highlighted in tomorrow’s “Ontario Student Achievement: EQAO's Provincial Report”, which will feature profiles of schools that are using provincial assessment results to support their own improvement planning and are notable for their demonstration of leadership, proactive initiatives, data-driven strategies and whole-school approaches to help every child succeed.

Particularly noteworthy again this year were the improvements in Grade 3 writing. 79 per cent of students
performed at or above the provincial standard, up 13 per cent from last year and 11 per cent above the provincial average.

“We are very encouraged by this year’s EQAO results. They reflect a sharpened focus on literacy development, enhanced resources, a solid professional development program designed to improve student learning and instruction, dedicated staff, and our belief that all students can achieve. We will certainly continue to intensify support for all assessment areas in 2009-2010 to maintain our momentum of improvement,” said Director of Education, Anna Marie Bitonti. “This has been a very successful assessment year for us – one which truly reflects a firm commitment to shared leadership for the benefit of student achievement.”
