There were two new fires in the East Fire Region within the last 24 hours. Kirkland Lake 8 was reported at 0.1 hectares and is now listed as under control. Kirkland Lake 10 was reported this morning at 0.1 hectares and has since been called out.

The forest fire hazard is low to moderate throughout the region, but is expected to drop back down to low over the coming days, as rain moves into the region.

A total of 155 Ontario personnel returned safely from British Columbia the evening of August 18. This brings the resource level of Ontario FireRangers and support personnel still in British Columbia to 306. A planned dispatch of an Incident Management Team and firefighting support personnel has been cancelled by British Columbia
now that they have assessed the fire situation.

Always remember to be FireSmart http://www.ontario.ca/fireprevention. If you're planning a campfire this weekend, remember to pick a designated campfire pit if available or choose a safe site on bare rock or soil, keep the fire small, never leave it unattended and make sure it is completely extinguished before leaving the site.
