Mattawa OPP, Mattawa Ambulance, Papineau-Cameron Fire Department along with the OPP Traffic Technical Collision Investigation (TTCI) and Forensic Identification Services Unit (FISU) responded to a serious single motor vehicle collision on Monday, August 17th, 2009 shortly after 1:30 p.m. on Highway 17, east of Burritts Road in Papineau-Cameron Township.

The vehicle was travelling westbound on Highway 17 in an area currently under construction. Witnesses report the vehicle suddenly veered right and went off the roadway striking a rock cut before going airborne and coming to a stopped position.

The driver, Kaylee SHEPPARD, and her passenger, Jessica JINKS, both 18 years old of Pembroke, Ontario, were transported to the Mattawa General Hospital. SHEPPARD was later transferred to the Sudbury General Hospital where she remains in critical condition in the Intensive Care Unit. JINKS was treated for minor injuries and released.
