OPP busy with charges at RIDE checks last two weeks

North Bay - On Tuesday, August 4th, 2009, on Highway 17E, North Bay, officers seized a large quantity of marihuana and over $15,000.00.

Charged is Steve MELO, 37 years old of Jocko Point, North Bay with:
• Possession of a controlled substance, CDSA (1)
• Possession of Property Obtained by Crime 355(a) CC
• Money Laundering - 462.31(1)(a)CC

MELO is scheduled to appear in North Bay for court on September 29th, 2009.

On Sunday, August 16th, at approximately 10:30 p.m. on Highway 17E, North Bay, an eastbound motor vehicle failed to stop for a police RIDE check. Police subsequently stopped the vehicle and discovered the presence of cannabis marihuana and a large amount of Canadian currency. The motor vehicle was towed to the detachment where a further search of the motor vehicle lead to the discovery of an additional 17lbs of marihuana and 17 lbs of cannabis resin.

As a result of this incident, Bruce KINSMAN, 41 years old of Ottawa, Ontario was charged with:
• Possession of a Controlled Substance - Sec 4(1) C.D.S.A.
• Possession of a Controlled Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking - sec 5(2) C.D.S.A.
• Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5000.00 - Sec 354(1) (a) C.C.
• Drive While Under Suspension - Sec 53 H.T.A.

Kinsman was released on a Promise to Appear and is scheduled to appear in North Bay for court on the September 22nd, 2009.

On Saturday, August 1st, 2009, shortly before 4 a.m., on Highway 17W of the North Bay, OPP officers responded to a motor vehicle collision.

Sharon JANVIER, 36 years old of North Bay was charged with:
• Impaired Operation / Motor Vehicle / Alcohol, s.253(1)(a) CC;
• Fail to provide Breath Sample / Approved Instrument / Motor Vehicle, s. 254(5) CC;
• Class G2 licence holder - B.A.C. above zero, s. 6(1)(1) HTA.

JANVIER is scheduled to appear in North Bay for court on Tuesday, September 1st, 2009.

On Sunday, August 2nd, 2009, at approximately 4 a.m., on the Bypass, officers charged Kevin Michael RUECK, 28 years old of Guelph, Ontario with Exceed 80 Milligrams Blood Alcohol Content / Motor Vehicle, s. 253(1) (b) CC. RUECK is scheduled to appear in North Bay for court on Tuesday, September 8th, 2009.

On Sunday, August 2nd, 2009, shortly before 7 p.m., on Highway 17 in Calvin Township, OPP officers responded to a traffic complaint of possible impaired driver.

Stephanie THOMSON, 25 years old of Renfrew was charged with:
• Drive Disqualified s. 259 (4)(a);
• Impaired Operation / Motor Vehicle / Alcohol s. 253 (1) (a);
• Exceed 80 Milligrams Blood Alcohol Content / Motor Vehicle s. 253 (1)(b).

THOMPSON is scheduled to appear in North Bay for court on Tuesday, September 8th, 2009.

On Friday, August 7th, 2009, shortly after 9 p.m., following a Highway Traffic Act violation, a motorist was stopped and subsequent investigation resulted in charges against the driver. Barry BELLAIRE, 40 years old of Calvin Township was charged with:
• Impaired Operation / Motor Vehicle / Alcohol s. 253 (1) (a);
• Exceed 80 Milligrams Blood Alcohol Content / Motor Vehicle s. 253 (1)(b).

BELLAIRE is scheduled to appear in Mattawa for court on Wednesday, September 9th, 2009.

On Saturday, August 8th, 2009 shortly before 4 a.m., on Highway 11, in the city of North Bay following traffic stop Marcus SCHMIDT, 22 years old, of North Bay was charged with:
• Impaired Operation / Motor Vehicle / Alcohol, s.253(1)(a) CC;
• Fail to provide Breath Sample / Approved Instrument / Motor Vehicle, s. 254(5) CC;
• Class G2 licence holder - B.A.C. above zero, s. 6(1) (1) HTA.

SCHMIDT is scheduled to appear in North Bay for court on Tuesday, September 15th, 2009.

On Thursday, August 13th, 2009 just before 5 a.m., OPP officers conducted a traffic stop and as a result, Helen SHEPPARD, 47 years old of Trout Creek was charged with:
• Exceed 80 Milligrams Blood Alcohol Content / Motor Vehicle, s. 253(1)(b) CC;
• Drive motor vehicle - no licence, s. 32(1) HTA;
• Having care or control of a motor vehicle with open container of liquor s. 32(1) LLA.

SHEPPARD is scheduled to appear in North Bay for court on Tuesday, September 29th, 2009.

On August 14th, 2009 at approximately 1:30 a.m., on Highway 11 in South Himsworth, a car being driven by Brandon Michael HUGUES, 20 years old of South Himsworth was stopped. As a result of this stop he was charged with Exceed 80 Milligrams Blood Alcohol Content / Motor Vehicle, s. 253(1) (b) CC. This investigation is ongoing.

On August 15th, 2009 at approximately 1:30 p.m., in Gladman Township an All-Terrain Vehicle driver, Denise PARKS, 51 years old of Gladman Township was charged with Exceed 80 Milligrams Blood Alcohol Content, s. 253(1) (b) CC. This investigation is ongoing.

OPP officers issued 10 three-day suspensions – warn range from August 1st to August 16th, 2009.
