OPP seize $39,000 of marijuana in grow op bust

CENTRAL MANITOULIN TWP – On Thursday July 23, Manitoulin OPP, DES Sudbury, and Wikwemikong Tribal police conducted a Controlled Drug and Substance Act search warrant at a residence on Highway 542 in Central Manitoulin Township.

Total seizure of suspected marijuana plants and marijuana has an estimated street value of $39,000.

An indoor marijuana grow operation was discovered.

As a result of this investigation two Manitoulin residents have been charged.

They are:

- Thomas Schmutz age 44 of Highway 542, Carnarvon, Ontario charged with possession for the purpose of cannabis marijuana under Section 4(1) of the Controlled Drug and Substance Act and one count of production of cannabis marijuana Section 7(1) of the Controlled Drug and Substance Act.

- Monique Hunse, age 39 of Highway 542, Carnarvon, Ontario charged with possession for the purpose of cannabis marijuana under Section 4(1) of the Controlled Drug and Substance Act and one count of production of cannabis marijuana Section 7(1) of the Controlled Drug and Substance Act.

Both subjects have been released and are to appear in Gore Bay Provincial Court to answer to the said charges.
