Calvin Township gets a new bandshell

Calvin – On Saturday afternoon, the Municipality of Calvin hosted the Honourable Monique Smith, MPP for Nipissing, at their annual summer picnic day. In 2008, the municipality was awarded an $11,500 grant from the Ontario Trillium Foundation to create this new community gathering place.

Situated on the Calvin Community Centre grounds, the new bandshell is ideally located to be used for such things as BBQs, musical performances, family gatherings, weddings, picnics and to encourage wider participation in activities already taking place on the grounds -a place where caregivers can meet while their children play on equipment or participate in sporting activities. The new outdoor facility will broaden the range of services available for all citizens to enjoy.

“I am delighted to join the Township of Calvin to help celebrate this Ontario Trillium Foundation grant,” said Nipissing MPP Monique Smith. “The new bandshell is a welcome addition to the park and I know the community will enjoy it for years to come.”

“It is again a pleasure to welcome MPP Monique Smith to Calvin to officially unveil the new bandshell and to acknowledge the financial assistance received through the Ontario Trillium Foundation,” said Calvin Township Mayor, Wayne Brown. “Thank you to the Ontario government and in particular, the Ontario Trillium Foundation for this much appreciated funding. The new bandshell will be a focal point on our municipal grounds allowing many community activities to generate from it.”

The Municipality of Calvin is a small, peaceful, rural community with an abundance of scenic views. It is nestled along the Trans-Canada Highway east of the City of North Bay and just west of the Town of Mattawa along the Mattawa River.
