Gowganda – The Ontario Provincial Police is investigating the discovery of human remains in a camp area near Duncan Lake in Matachewan Township (formerly Doon Township) west of the Town of Gowganda and approximately 23 km from Highway 560. The discovery was made by campers in the afternoon of July 7, 2009.

The Ontario Provincial Police Emergency Response Team (E.R.T.) is presently securing the scene while the investigation continues. The remains have been removed by the OPP North East Forensic Identification Services and transported to the Office of Chief Corner in Toronto for forensic examination to determine the identification and possible cause of death.

The investigation is continuing by officers of the Temiskamiing Crime Unit under the direction of Detective Inspector Guy P. FAUCHER of the Criminal Investigation Branch.
