There have been no new fires reported in the East fire Region for June 28.

Saturday, June 27, 13 new fires were reported. Seven of the fires occurred in North Bay district, three fires in Sudbury district, two fires in Cochrane district, and one fire in Timmins district. Of the 13 new fires, 10 were confirmed to be caused by lightning.

Rapid and aggressive ground and air tanker support contributed to keeping the majority Saturday’s fires small in size. Seven of these fires have already been called out, while five have been contained, and one is still listed as not under control.

In total there are 16 active fires in the East Fire Region. For more information please click here

As rain moves into the East Fire Region over the next few days, the fire hazard across the region will decrease. Some dry pockets will remain but most of the East Fire Region will have a Low fire hazard.

As the summer progresses, so does work and construction around cottages and rural homes. When designing new structures, important considerations such as proximity to forested areas and FireSmart building materials can be part of the planning process. For existing structures, managing vegetation and having FireSmart tools on hand are a few things property owners can do to be prepared for a wildfire.
