The two-day event was the first National Aboriginal Day Powwow for the city and the North Bay Indian Friendship planning committee is already looking forward to next year's event. The powwow is an opportunity to celebrate and share culture and tradition and to welcome the native and non-native community together to develop cross cultural understanding through workshops, song and dance.

The powwow opened with the Grand Entry this is a sacred event with most powwows not allowing filming or photography during this time, however, officials allowed the media a rare opportunity to capture the Grand Entry on Saturday. The Eagle Staff led the procession followed by flags, then the dancers, while one of the host drums sang the opening song.
