Ontario sending more fire support to B.C

Ontario is responding to another request for forest fire fighter support to British Colombia. 114 personnel are planned for departure Tuesday June 16 from Sudbury and Dryden, Ontario to Prince George, BC.

Out of the 114, the East Fire Region will be sending 68 personnel. They will consist of 60 FireRangers, and eight overhead staff.

There were three new fires confirmed in the East Fire Region for June 15. Cochrane 6 is 0.1 hectares, and Wawa 10 is 0.5 hectares, there are no problems anticipated with controlling the fires. Chapleau 9 was the East Fire Region’s first lightning fire of the season. It is 2.4
hectares in size and required action from a CL-415 water bomber. Two FireRanger crews are currently making good progress in containing Chapleau 9.

There were also two new fires reported late on Sunday, June 14. Chapleau 8 and Cochrane 5 were both 0.1 hectares in size and there were no problems controlling the fires.

The forest fire hazard forecast for June 16 is low to moderate for the southern half of the region. North of Wawa, Chapleau and Timmins will be a high hazard extending all the way to the far north. There will also be a pocket of high hazard around the Sault Ste. Marie area.
