On Monday, Liberal Leader Michael Ignatieff reviewed the government’s accountability report and presented four questions that Canadians need answered. Nipissing‐Timiskaming MP Anthony Rota believes that this was a responsible and prudent approach, designed to show
Canadians that the Liberals are doing their part to make Parliament work.

“We want to make it clear to Canadians that the Liberal Party is not seeking an election,” says Mr. Rota. “We want Parliament to work. We want to replace confrontation with co‐operation.”

According to Mr. Rota, in January, the Liberals supported the budget because it promised to get needed stimulus into the economy. They did so on the condition that the government would submit regular reports to Parliament on its performance.

“After reading the government’s latest status update over the weekend,” says Mr. Rota, “we still have serious questions about this government’s performance and have requested answers on some key issues affecting Canadians.”

Michael Ignatieff outlined four questions that the Liberals believe Canadians deserve to have answered. In particular, the Liberal Leader has asked Stephen Harper to outline his plans to address employment insurance, infrastructure spending, deficit relief, and the on‐going medical isotopes shortage in Canada.

“We know Canadians don’t want an election,” says Mr. Rota, “but Mr. Harper should not expect us to support the government on the basis of his report unless we get more information in these four areas.”
