OPP and Mattawa Museum celebrate milestones Saturday

MATTAWA - On Saturday, June 13th, 2009, the Ontario Provincial Police and the Mattawa and District Museum will join together at Explorer’s Point in Mattawa to celebrate two very special anniversaries. The OPP is celebrating their 100th Anniversary and the Mattawa and District Museum is celebrating their 25th Anniversary. Together they have planned a community event of interest to everyone.

The day begins at 1:00 p.m. with the unveiling of the new Maurice Nadon display by Assistant Commissioner, Mike McDonnell of the RCMP. Maurice Nadon was the 15th Commissioner of the RCMP. He has the distinction of being the first French Canadian Commissioner of the RCMP. Members of our Federal and Provincial Parliament, Mayor Dean Backer, RCMP and OPP will present congratulatory speeches to the OPP and the Mattawa and District Museum.

The public is invited to come tour the displays inside and outside the museum. These include Branch 23 Pipe Band Concert; Cake Cutting Ceremony with Mrs. Aurore Lafrenière, 100 years young who will cut the first piece for Mr. Maurice Nadon; OPP Canine Demonstration and several OPP exhibits including the Explosive Disposal Unit with their robot, known as a Remote Mechanical Investigator (RMI ), Emergency Response Team (ERT) just to name a few.

Come for a day of family fun with free admission to the museum, free hot dogs and drinks!!!
