Celebration of Flight - 100 Years of Aviation in Canada
Father's Day weekend, June 20th & 21st, 2009

In 2009, Canadians mark a very important building block of our national heritage. That milestone is the 100th anniversary of the first powered, heavier-than-air controlled flight in Canada by J.A.D. McCurdy in the Silver Dart.

Very few nations in the world owe more to flight than Canada. Aviation opened up the country and remains a lifeline to many remote and northern areas. Today, aerospace activity makes up a larger component of our industrial base than any other nation in the world!!

The Celebration of Flight Committee is very excited to announce that a full sized replica of the Silver Dart will be on display for everyone to see during the entire Celebration of Flight Weekend. This incredible replica is the result of many hours of meticulous building by a group of dedicated volunteers. Their passion to build such a machine is an homage to the spirit of Alexander Graham Bell, J.A.D McCurdy and the team of dreamers who marked the first flight in the British Commonwealth exactly a century ago.

The event takes place at at the South River - Sundridge Airport.
