One man dead following shooting at sawmill Updated

Noëlville – Noëlville, ON.) – In the early evening of Thursday, June 4, 2009, the OPP was called out to investigate a shooting incident that occurred at Chartrand Lumber, a sawmill in the town of Noëlville.

It has been determined that a lone male attended the Chartrand mill yard and discharged a firearm in the direction of a man who was working there. The man was shot while he was operating a piece of heavy equipment, and again when he was running away from the shooter. The victim was transported to St. Joseph Hospital in Sudbury where he is being treated for non-life threatening injuries.

A post mortem examination confirmed that the shooter died at his residence as a result of a single gunshot wound. There are no other persons believed to be involved in this incident.

Police indicate that this is an isolated incident and the public is not at risk.

To protect the identity of the victim, OPP will not be releasing the names of the persons involved.

The OPP’S Criminal Investigations Branch, Sudbury OPP Crime Unit and the Northeast Region Technical Identification Services Unit remain on scene assisting officers from Noëlville detachment with the investigation.

This ongoing investigation is under the direction of Detective Inspector Guy Faucher of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch.

In the early evening of Thursday, June 4, 2009, the OPP was called out to investigate a shooting incident that occurred at Chartrand Lumber, a sawmill in the town of Noëlville.

At approximately 6:50 p.m., officers responded to a report of two males suffering from gunshot wounds. The first person, a 49 year old man, was transported to St. Joseph Hospital in Sudbury where he was treated for non-life threatening injuries. The second, a 58 year old man, was located dead at a nearby residence. A firearm was recovered by police at the scene of the deceased person.

Police indicate that this is an isolated incident and the public is not at risk. A post mortem will be conducted at the Northeast Region Forensic Pathology Unit, Sudbury Regional Hospital, Laurentian Site at 1:30 p.m. today.

The OPP’S Criminal Investigations Branch, Sudbury OPP Crime Unit and the Northeast Region Technical Identification Services Unit are on scene assisting officers from Noëlville detachment with the investigation.
