On 2 June 2009, Colonel M.P. Galvin will relinquish command of 22 Wing/Canadian Forces Base (CFB) North Bay and the Canadian Air Defence Sector (CADS) to Colonel J.R.F. Malo.
Major (retired) Tim Leslie, originally from Baysville Ontario, will conduct a fly-past during the upcoming Change of Command Ceremony. North Bayites wanting to see the Canadair F-86 Sabre 5 jet fighter in action are asked to keep their eyes peeled to the skies towards the base as the fly-past is scheduled for approximately 10:40 a.m.
Commemorating 100 years of powered flight in Canada, the project dubbed Hawk One involves a refurbished Canadair F-86 Sabre 5 that has been repainted with the legendary gold colour of the Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF) Golden Hawks, Canada’s jet aerobatic demonstration team from 1959 – 1964. The Hawk One Sabre is the mainstay behind the 100th Anniversary celebrations, joining the Snowbirds in approximately 20 air shows from May to September 2009.
