Near North offers French Programs in Mattawa for September

The Near North District School Board is pleased to announce that two new French programs are available for the community of Mattawa, commencing next September. Mattawa District Public School will now be a dual track school, offering exemplary English and French programs.

Mattawa District Public School is now accepting registrations for parents interested in enrolling their child in either program for the 2009-2010 school year. Parents interested in registering their kindergarten or Grade 1 child for the Early French Immersion program or their Grade 5 or Grade 6 child for the Extended French program can contact the school directly at 472-5241.

Last February, the Near North District School Board was asked by parents to investigate the viability of providing an Early French Immersion and/or an Extended French Program for the elementary and secondary students in the Mattawa area. A survey was distributed and results indicated significant interest in the program.

The Early French Immersion and Extended French programs are designed specifically for students whose first language is not French. All communication to parents is in English and it is not necessary for parents to speak French in order to support their children.

The Near North District School Board proudly serves all of its communities and is pleased to proceed with and enhance current programs and extra-curricular activities for the students in the Mattawa area.
