OTTAWA – Canada’s largest hotel manager has signed on to help Canadian athletes, coaches, sport organizations and sport partners save on sports travel accommodation expenses while raising money at the same time.

Commonwealth Games Canada (CGC) today announced a new sponsorship agreement with Westmont Hospitality Group (WHG). Westmont operates over 150 hotels in Canada, including Best Western, Comfort Inn, Delta, Hilton, Holiday Inn, Holiday Inn Express, Quality, Radisson and Travelodge.

“We’re really excited to be working with these outstanding hotel properties and to be able to extend the benefits of our partnership for team travel needs to athletes, coaches and sport partners right across the country,” says Thomas Jones, Chief Executive Officer, Commonwealth Games Canada. “This will translate in to savings of thousands of dollars for the sport community, as well as significant fundraising.”

As part of their sponsorship, WHG’s hotels in Canada will extend the hotel’s discounted, competitive “sport rate” to all teams affiliated with Commonwealth Games Canada. The rates will vary based on the property and time of year.

In addition, every time a team stays at a Westmont Hospitality Group hotel, a percentage of the room rate will go back to Commonwealth Games Canada, contributing to CGC’s “Dream it in Delhi” fundraising campaign for Canadian athletes who will compete at the Delhi Commonwealth Games in October 2010.
