A power outage at West Ferris Secondary School occurred this morning. Students and staff at West Ferris Secondary School have been safely accommodated and directed into school areas with natural light.

North Bay Hydro has determined that the power outage has occurred as a result of an issue with a transformer. Power is not likely to be restored during the school day.

City students who are within walking distance will be sent home or asked to contact parents to make alternate arrangements. Buses that arrived in the morning have departed the school to return students home. Where possible, bus drivers will attempt to see that students are able to safely get into their homes. When bus drivers are aware of students who cannot get into their homes, students will be returned to West Ferris Secondary School. They will return to the cafeteria until they can make contact with their parents. In addition, buses will depart from the school at the end of the day, as per usual.

Several elementary students are at West Ferris Secondary School today participating in Dreamcoat Fantasy Theatre activities. Parents of these children are being contacted and asked to pick up their children from West Ferris in order to return them to their schools.

The Near North District School Board would like to thank the power authority workers and Board staff who are working diligently to deal with this concern.
