On Thursday, May 7, 2009 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., Sunset Park Public School will be hosting an information evening for parents entitled Demystifying Assistive Technology. Parents and members of the media are invited to attend the interactive workshop to learn more about how assistive technology can support student learning.

Assistive technology in today’s classroom can provide teachers with a range of tools to make inclusion possible and easier. Many “built-in” assistive technology features turn out to be advantageous for a broad range of students, not just those with special needs. Assistive technology can help many students by building on individual strengths, improving motivation, accomplishing higher rates of learning, improved achievement and assisting students in completing academic tasks independently.

Sunset Park Public School received a Parent Reaching Out Grant, in the amount of $900, from the Ministry of Education to develop this workshop. Additional support is provided by the Near North District School Board’s Special Education Department and the Sunset Park School Advisory Council.
