Inclement weather kept the groups from Verner, Matheson and Iroquouis Falls from taking part but still about 140 youth made it out to the event where they tested the speed and agility of their handmade Beaver Buggies, Kub Kars and Scout Trucks.

“We had about 140 kids, and another 25 adults. It was loud and noisy as always and the kids still had fun,” notes Ken Sitter Third Widdifield Scout Leader.

“We also had birthday cake to celebrate Nipissing Area's 75th anniversary, and have some very nice keepsakes for a time capsule to be opened in 2035.”

Kub Kar racing has its origins in California during the 1950s. The first rallies were held in North Bay in the early 1970s, the first Nipissing Area rally was held in 1980, the first Scout Truck Rodeo in 1997, and the first Beaver Buggy Bustout in 2005.

Nipissing Area Scouts Canada was organized in 1934 as Nipissing District of the Boy Scout Association of Canada, though First North Bay Scout Group sponsored by Trinity
United Church was the first chartered group in Nipissing in 1921 (and is now the oldest), and Scouting activities. such as dog sled racing at what is now the plaza on King Street, were reported in the local news during the First World War.

The Scouting movement, started by Lord Baden-Powell, celebrated its 100th anniversary in 2007.
