BONFIELD – An official ceremony today marked the completion of the replacement of the Line 3 North Bridge in the Township of Bonfield. The Honourable Tony Clement, Minister of Industry; Monique Smith, Member of Provincial Parliament for Nipissing, and Narry McCarthy, Mayor of the Township of Bonfield, are pleased to see this important COMRIF project come to completion.

Line 3 North Bridge over the Kaibuskong River was replaced with a one-lane steel concrete bridge. The project included the construction of the new bridge structure, erosion control and road work. The Government of Canada and the Government of Ontario each committed up to $101,827. The Township of Bonfield committed the balance of the project’s total eligible cost of $305,480.

“The Line 3 North Bridge is an essential link for this community,” said MPP Smith. “The McGuinty government is pleased to participate in this partnership project to improve the quality of life for the residents of Bonfield.”

“Renewal of our infrastructure remains a top priority for the Township,” said Mayor McCarthy. “The replacement of the Line 3 North Bridge could only be achieved with the generous contribution from our federal and provincial partners through COMRIF.”

Under the COMRIF program, the governments of Canada and Ontario are working together with the Association of Municipalities of Ontario and local partners to respond to local needs through infrastructure upgrades providing safe drinking water, better sewage systems, improved waste management processes, safer local roads and bridges as well as other health and safety priorities.
