RIDE check results in drug charges

On April 14th, 2009, North Bay OPP officers were conducting RIDE on Highway 17 in Beaucage Township. Shortly after 9:00 pm a vehicle was stopped and the lone male occupant was found to be a suspended driver. During further conversation and evidence garnered, the driver was arrested for the possession of a controlled substance. A search of the vehicle resulted in seizing two duffel bags which contained approximately a dozen individually packaged plastic bags of suspected marihuana with a total weight of over six pounds. Also seized was a large amount of money.

Mark ST.AMANT, 30 years old, of Sudbury, Ontario was charged with:

• Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5,000 as per Criminal Code s.CC 354(1)(a);
• Possession for the Purpose Schedule I - Other Drugs as per Controlled Drug and Substance Act, s.5(2);
• Possession Schedule II Cannabis Marihuana - over 30 grams as per CDSA 4(1)

St.AMANT is scheduled to appear for court in North Bay on the May 26th, 2009.
