Nipissing Lapidary and Mineral Club

In response to the media coverage the Nipissing Lapidary and Mineral Club received in late 2008, they are again holding an Open House and Sale. The fall event brought in 25 new members – people interested in rocks, minerals, and even in making their own jewellery. It’s also a great club for kids who are interested in learning more about the Earth.

The 2-day Open House and Sale will be held on Saturday and Sunday, May 2 and 3, from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm. As this is one week before Mother’s Day, it’s an excellent time to purchase club-make and artisan jewellery (earrings,
bracelets, necklaces, pins, etc.). There will also be tours of the clubhouse, and demonstrations of some of the techniques of making jewellery, mounting minerals, and the basics of rock and mineral collecting.

Just before the Open House, the club will be attending the Powassan Maple
Syrup Festival – Saturday, April 25th, 8:30 am to 4:30 pm. And, as a special
treat, there will be an active demonstration table at Redpath (on McKeown
Ave, North Bay, Tuesday April 28th, from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm, in conjunction with Ontario Mining Week.

Several field trips are in the planning stages for later in the spring and
summer, so if you want to collect your own samples, or learn the tricks of
field collecting, be sure to drop by one of our events for a visit.
