What: 2009 Qualifying Competitions for the 20th Ontario Technological Skills Competition

When: Saturday, April 18, 2009

Where: Qualifying Competitions take place at six different locations in the province:

Canadore College – North Bay, Ontario
• Georgian College – Midland, Ontario and Barrie, Ontario
• St. Lawrence College – Kingston, Ontario
• Humber College – Toronto, Ontario
• Niagara College – Welland, Ontario and Niagara‐on‐the‐Lake, Ontario
• Fanshawe College – London, Ontario

Background: Skills Canada – Ontario is a not‐for‐profit organization dedicated to supporting the development of youth and the prosperity of industry in Ontario. We strive to promote the skilled trades and technologies as viable, first choice career options for young people.

Due to the increased popularity of some contests at the Ontario Technological Skills Competition (OTSC), Skills Canada – Ontario introduced qualifying competitions across
the province in 2005. In order to compete at the OTSC in specified contests,secondary level students will first be required to qualify in their area by taking part in a qualifying competition.

10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. Contests
12:00 – 12:30 p.m. Lunch
12:30 – 3:30 p.m. Contests
5:00 p.m. Awards Ceremony

The Qualifying Competitions are offered in six areas of the province in partnership with Ontario colleges. Currently, the following six contests are offered at each Qualifying Competition location: 2D Character Computer Animation, Carpentry‐Individual, Culinary Arts, Small Powered Equipment, TV and Video Production,Welding and Precision Machining.

The top two or three students/teams from each contest at each location, with the exception of the Precision Machining contest, will advance to the OTSC, as long as a minimum score of 60% has been achieved at the qualifying competition.
