Canadore College's School of Business, in conjunction with the Canadian Association for Co-operative Education (CAFCE), is celebrating National Co-operative Education (Co-op) Week from March 23 to 27.

Canadore is an active member of the Canadian Association for Co-operative Education (CAFCE). Established in 1973, CAFCE is a national, non-profit organization dedicated to ensuring the growth and quality of co-operative education programs across the country.

Co-operative education is an opportunity for students in the School of Business to apply what they have learned in the classroom, gain valuable work experience, network with professionals in their chosen field, and make money to help pay for their education.

Employers investing in co-operative education programs reap the benefits of reducing time-consuming and costly recruiting, hiring and training efforts. By investing in Canadore co-operative education students, employers expand their pool of qualified workers and address the shortage of skilled employee's problem. Also, many Canadore co-operative education students continue to work for the employer after the placement has finished.

"The School of Business has offered co-op programs since 1989, when the Business Administration Accounting Co-op program was first launched. In 2002, the School added additional co-op opportunities within the Business, Business Administration, Business Administration Marketing and Small Business programs. This year, 49 students within the School of Business will participate in a co-op program, many of which will turn into full-time jobs for the student after graduation," said David Himmelman, Dean of the School of Business.

Organizations interested in hiring a School of Business Co-operative Education student can apply to the Ministry of Northern Development and Mines for the Co-operative Education Wage Subsidy that pays up to $6/hour per student placement.

National Co-operative Education Week is another opportunity to celebrate the accomplishments of Canadore College's students, employees and alumni.
