Ottawa - For many families in Ontario, Spring Break is a time for traveling and a welcome break from the hustle and bustle of an average work week. In order to ensure you get the most from your spring break road trip, CAA North & East Ontario (CAANEO) is providing some helpful tips for a relaxing and stress-free trip with your nearest and dearest.

- The most important part of a road trip is the vehicle, so remember to keep yours in tip top shape. Before you go, have your car tuned up at a CAA Approved Auto Repair Service (AARS) centre. It’s also a good idea to give both the interior and exterior of your vehicle a thorough cleaning to remove all the salt, sand and dirt that may have accumulated over the winter months.

- Be prepared! Make sure to plan your route in advance, and always travel with a fully charged cell phone.

- Remember; road time is family time, and you’ll be in close quarters for the length of your trip. In order to keep everyone busy and content, try bringing a range of games and activities catered to everyone’s interest, like word puzzles or a family friendly movie.

- Active kids can be a challenge in the car. Frequent stops and seat switching will turn their attention to something new and different until the next stop, while also preventing driver fatigue and distraction.

- Teenagers are great to travel with if they’re happy. Bringing a friend may take up room in the car, but with someone their own age, they’re more likely to enjoy themselves. Remember; sleeping in on Spring Break is a priority for most teens, so if you’re a travelling before noon a pillow is a necessity!

- If you’re staying in the country, you won’t need your passport, but make sure all of your passengers are travelling with photo id in case of emergency.

By following these simple tips, you can ensure that you and your family have a safe and enjoyable break. Happy Travels!
