West Nipissing man has been fined a total of $1,000 for failing to produce his hunting licence and for providing a conservation officer with false information.

Gerald Larabie, 58, pleaded not guilty to both charges.

In October, 2003, Larabie was stopped by a conservation officer while hunting moose in the Marten River area. When asked for his moose hunting licence, he told the conservation officer that he did not have one as he was claiming an aboriginal entitlement. Following a lengthy investigation, it was determined that Larabie actually did have a valid moose licence at the time.

The case was heard by Justice of the Peace Michel Moreau at a special sitting of the Ontario Court of Justice in North Bay, on March 3, 2009.
