City woman charged with aggravated assault Update

Police officials note that the altercation took place while the two women were within a vehicle in a commercial parking lot on Cassells Street in North Bay.

Further clarification indicates that the accused did not turn herself in, but did attend the North Bay Police Station to report that she had been assaulted.

At that same time police were taking a call from the hospital reporting a patient had just arrived with a neck injury, and that is when the accused was arrested.

Our Service wishes to advise that the Aggravated Assault and Assault with a Weapon charge that was reported on Friday against Mary Ann VILLENEUVE has now been upgraded to Attempt Murder. She remains in custody.

On the 20th of Feb. at approximately 5:30 AM it is alleged that an argument took place within a North Bay home between 2 women known to each other.

This argument led one of the women to slash the other in the face and throat area with a knife. The victim was driven to the North Bay Hospital by a friend. She received numerous stitches to her face and neck.

While the victim was being treated at the hospital the alleged assailant attended the North Bay Police station and turned herself in to the desk officer Cst. Matt Parker of our Service.

Mary Ann VILLENEUVE 40 years old of Highway 11 North in North Bay is charged with Assault With a Weapon and Aggravated Assault and the investigation continues.

The victim was released from the hospital.
